Teresa DeFord, Esq.
Born on Christmas Eve 1966 in Lansing, Michigan,
Teresa DeFord, Esq. grew up in the small, Mid-Michigan
farming community of Ovid. Teresa later studied
political philosophy and criminal justice at Michigan
State University.
While at Michigan State, Teresa had the opportunity to participate in two
internships with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in Washington,
D.C. Teresa’s internships turned into a fascinating five year career with the
DEA as an Intelligence Research Specialist, which took her from Washington,
D.C. to San Francisco, California, and finally to Houston, Texas.
After five years with the DEA, Teresa started law school at the University
of Houston Law Center. During law school, Teresa became a member of
the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and was inducted into the Order of the
Barons. Teresa was also the Senior Articles Editor for the Houston Law
Review during her third year of law school. Teresa graduated from the
University of Houston Law Center cum laude and was admitted to the
Texas bar in 1995. She was admitted to the Louisiana bar in 2001.
Over the last 15 years, Teresa’s legal practice has focused primarily on
personal injury defense trial law, with an emphasis on trucking and oilfield
injury litigation defense. Teresa has also handled business and employment
law matters and numerous appeals. Recently, Teresa has found
a passion in helping people learn how to best protect their families and
businesses and she has expanded her practice to focus on that need.
Because of her passion for helping the people and businesses in her community,
Teresa is very active in The Woodlands community. She is on the
board of directors for both The Woodlands and Montgomery County Bar Associations,
and The Community Clinic, a local free health clinic. Teresa also
enjoys playing golf and is active with a women’s golf organization called
Women on Course. Teresa is also active in The Woodlands Chamber of
Commerce and is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Montgomery County.
Teresa has been married to her husband Mark, a computer engineer she
met while at Michigan State, since 1992. She and Mark have two busy
boys (10 and 3) and the family resides in The Woodlands, Texas.
