Alan Cashman
For Alan and Bonnie Cashman, life is about building sturdy
foundations – for their marriage (40 years and counting), for
their successful businesses and for better health through
diet, fitness and positive thinking. Cashman Lifestyle is their
way of passing along the personal and professional lessons they’ve learned to others
so they too can “enjoy the good life.”
The Cashman’s unique partnership began when they met while both were attending
Seattle University. They would spend the better part of the next four decades married
and working together to establish not one, but two successful companies; the Balanced
Program Institute (BPI), one of the premier employee benefit firms in the Pacific
Northwest, and Administrative Systems, Inc. (ASI), a top provider of office systems/
support to insurance companies. As founder of both companies, Alan acquired valuable
experience in key areas of financial services, including employee benefits, wealth
management, retirement planning and individual/corporate life insurance. Bonnie was
BPI’s president while also establishing herself as a sales leader, building relationships
with more than 1,000 employer groups in the Seattle area. She also is a sought-after
speaker for her experience in worksite marketing and in 1999 was inducted into the
National Association of Professional Enrollment Specialists Hall of Fame.
In 2003, the Cashmans sold both BPI and ASI to a New York Stock Exchange company,
giving them the financial freedom to build a private art collection and search for
new challenges. Although both had more time to exercise, Alan continued to struggle
with weight and blood pressure and Bonnie developed a form of skin cancer. But the
Cashmans brought the same work ethic and research to their health that they had
brought to bear on the business world. They learned of dietary secrets that did away
with sugar and set them on the road to wellness – so much so that Seattle doctors
were surprised that Alan had quickly turned around his vital signs and Bonnie ended
her skin cancer issues.
The Cashmans have opened an innovative multi-discipline fitness center, Lab5 Fitness,
in Seattle’s Capitol Hill, and have started Cashman Lifestyle as a way to share
their expertise in helping others live healthier, wealthier lives. The Cashmans “enjoy
the good life.” Now their mission is to teach others how to do the same.
